Psalms Photography Studio / Pleasanton Newborn Photographer / What To Expect

My name is Katie Scott, I am a Maternity and Newborn Photographer serving the Bay Area and Central Valley. I have a studio here in the gorgeous Pleasanton, California where I have the pleasure of snuggling babies and capturing your families most precious moments. I am very passionate with my dream of creating lasting memories that my families can look back on with joyful emotions.

Newborn photography can be incredibly challenging, but it’s so amazing to be a part of a baby’s life in

those first few days. There’s some prep and planning involved to make the shoot more successful so

we have compiled a list to help us get the most out of your newborn session.

Let's Pencil You In: We know that a baby's birthday can be unpredictable. It's best to contact us during your second trimester so we can pencil you in. It's great if you can add us to the "when baby is born" list of

people to notify, too! That way we will have a better idea of when you'll need to book.

Loosen the diaper: About 30 minutes before your session, please loosen baby's diaper and any clothing

with waist bands that could leave those little imprint marks. Loosening them before gives them time to

disappear.

The Nitty Gritty: Poop happens! Please don't be upset or feel bad if baby decides it's time to go potty

when he/she is in the buff and being photographed! This is totally natural and it's just part of the job. We

launder all blankets with non-scented baby detergent between sessions. It would definitely be helpful if

you had a stack of old towels, extra wipes and blankets available for when things get messy though.

Hungry? A well fed baby is a happy baby. Please feed and burp baby right before our session. This will

ensure a nice sleepy "milk drunk" babe. We are also happy to take as many breaks as baby needs if he

or she gets hungry during our shoot. It's tough work being new in the world!

What should we wear? If you plan on being in some of the shots with baby we suggest wearing neutral, well fitting clothing that you’re comfy in. The same goes for siblings. Avoid bold prints and graphic tees. Mom and Dad’s hands will likely be in a lot of the shots so please make sure nails are clean and manicured. We have all of the outfits, wraps, and props here at the studio for the baby, so you won't need to worry about getting them ready or bringing and clothes. Just have the baby arrive in something loose so we can remove it easily when you arrive.

Dry skin for baby: Many newborns will have flaky skin during those first few weeks of life. We suggest bringing some lotion with you to put on baby right before the shoot.

Rescheduling: We get it. Stuff happens. If you do need to reschedule your shoot please know that after 10 days of age the likelihood of getting posed newborn shots is unlikely. Your deposit is non-transferable and non-refundable so you’ll need to pay another deposit fee to hold your new date.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We can’t wait to meet your new baby!
